Meet our Farmers
We have the privilege of working with a number of farmers who are passionate about nurturing and cultivating their land naturally, free of pesticides and fertilisers. As part of a co-operative they are educated, supported and monitored to ensure they meet EU and US Organic Standards and given an outlet for their produce to be cleaned, dried and sold.
We aim to visit our farmers once or twice per year which forges a strong relationship with these co-operatives. This allows us to choose the highest quality produce, including the turmeric with the highest curcumin content, and we are delighted to offer a price which represents the quality of the product and rewards these farmers for their hard work.

Our Cooperative PArtners
Peermade Development Society (PDS) is currently working with
2,064 farmers within Idukki District, in India. The total land under
cultivation is 2,108 hectares (5,270 acres).
PDS purchases the entire crop of each spice from each farmer
at a specified rate. This rate includes a premium, over and above the market price or Fair Trade Minimum price, in recognition of the produce being organic. All produce is collected and brought to the processing factory at Valanjanganam. The factory houses processing units for cleaning, grading and grinding, steam sterilisation and heavy metal testing facilities.
It complies with ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System. USFDA, ASTA & ESA food safety and hygiene standards are
followed. Within the factory is a Quality Assurance laboratory and a Soil Testing laboratory. Traceability of spices is maintained through the
processing and labelling post-processing identifies the origin of the produce.
